Hector Lopez

Hector Lopez-Camacho
President of ALPFA Boston
Vice President of Investment Services, State Street Corporation

Hector is a Vice President for State Street's U.S. Investment Services. In his current role, Hector is a Unit Head responsible for a centralized reporting group. In this capacity, his teams provide internal audit and reporting services to several mutual fund client relationships. Prior to this role, Hector was an Assistant Vice President responsible for a Financial Operations department at SchoolHouse Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of State Street Corporation focusing on the 529 College Savings business. In recognition for his significant contributions to the ongoing development and success of SchoolHouse Capital, Hector received the Division’s Excellence Award in September of 2003 from State Street U.S. Investment Services. Hector started his career in State Street at SSgA as an investment analyst.

As part of his activities in the community, Hector serves as the President of ALPFA Boston. ALPFA is the leading professional association dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Latinos in the accounting, finance and related professions. ALPFA is a national organization comprised of over 13,000 members, 2,200 of those in Boston, MA. Hector is also a co-founder and co-chair of State Street's LAPG (Latin American Professionals Group). The LAPG's mission is to create opportunities for professional and personal advancement for its members and the community that State Street serves through volunteering projects. Hector received State Street's Global Inclusion Spot Award in 2008, a program designed to reward employees that are going above and beyond to contribute to Global Inclusion initiatives.

State Street recently nominated Hector for the HACR Young Hispanic Corporate Achievers (YHCA) Program. Hector was then selected by HACR along with other 25 professionals from Fortune 500 companies based on his leadership capabilities within State Street and proven commitment to the community. In addition, Hector has been selected by Phoenix’s El Planeta newspaper as “One of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in MA” for 2 years in a row for his work in the community (2007 and 2008). Most recently, Hector was selected by ALPFA National as "Most Promising Business Professional" and “20 On the Move” Hispanic Executives by the Boston Business Journal.
Hector holds an MBA cum laude in Finance from Babson College, a B. S. summa cum laude in Economics and a B.S. summa cum laude in Business Administration from Salem State College. He is also a graduate of the Partnership’s Fellows Program Class of 2008. Hector is originally from Madrid, Spain.

Orlando Rodriguez joined World Energy Solutions, leading operator of online exchanges for energy and green commodities in early 2007. At World Energy Orlando was introduced to various factions of the energy industry including working with electricity, natural gas and the growing green markets. As an Account Manager, Orlando was primarily responsible for assisting clients (energy end users), channel partners and utility companies to leverage opportunities presented by deregulation and the developing environmental markets. With over 12 years of experience in the non-profit and social service sectors his goal was to utilize the transferable skills he developed to date to support the high growth energy company at further leveraging and developing revenue generating opportunities.

Prior to joining World Energy Orlando successfully served as Centro Las Americas (CLA) Executive Director from 2003-2007. Centro Las Americas is a multi-service, non-profit Latino organization whose primary purpose is to serve, empower and advocate for the greater Worcester community. Although Centro was embarking on celebrating 30 years of service to the greater Worcester community, upon Orlando’s arrival CLA was in a deep transition and suffered major financial challenges. Orlando played an integral role in stabilizing, revitalizing and positioning the company to be able serve, empower and advocate for the greater Worcester community for another 30 years.

Orlando served as a Harrington Memorial Hospital Corporator. He was the first Hispanic to be elected as a Board of Trustee member for the Jacobs Edwards Library. Orlando has since been described by former State Representative Mark J. Carron as, “an incredible asset to the community. He is an excellent communicator with various factions, without over-embellishing or understating issues.” He maintains a strong commitment to his community with a positive outlook, refreshing ideas, and a strong work ethic.

Running the Marathon for Charity: Make a Donation

As Vice President of Wealth Management Relationships at Capital Formation Group, Marcel helps people attain financial independence, build their legacies and manage their financial affairs. Marcel has more than thirteen than 13 years of financial services and wealth management experience. Prior to joining the Capital Formation Group, Marcel was a Private Wealth Specialist at the Private Banking and Investment Group of Merrill Lynch. Previous to that she was with the Individual Investment Group at Morgan Stanley; FUNDES-Bolivia, a foundation where she worked with banks to provide loans to small and mid-sized companies; Marketing Director for a Bolivian financial fund, Fondo de la Comunidad; and Banco Mercantil, one of the largest banks in South America, where she managed funds for executives of Bolivia’s largest firms. Marcel graduated with honors from the Universidad Privada Boliviana in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Marcel is a member of the National Corporate Advisory Board of the Women of ALPFA, as well as Vice President of the Women of ALPFA Boston Chapter. She chairs the Women of the Harvard Club Committee, and sits on the board of directors of the New England Latin American Business Council. Marcel is also a member of Women’s Luncheon Committee for the U.S. Fund of UNICEF. She is on her Parish Council in Marblehead, where she lives.

 

Carolina Avellaneda

Executive Vice President, Legal & Administration and General Counsel of Millennium Partners Sports Club Management

Betty is the Executive Vice President, Legal & Administration and General Counsel of Millennium Partners Sports Club Management which owns and operates six premier sports and fitness clubs in Boston, DC, New York, Miami and San Francisco under the “Sports Club/LA” and “Reebok Sports Club/NY” brands. In her role, she provides legal counsel to the company’s six health clubs and oversees human resources and corporate compliance. Betty is responsible for a broad range of legal matters, including employment, compliance, intellectual property, insurance, privacy and security, real estate, and commercial transactions.

Before joining the company, Betty was a senior associate in the Business Law Department at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge where she represented public and private biotechnology and venture capital companies in financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and general corporate matters. Prior to that, she worked at the NY County District Attorney’s Office where she coordinated all aspects of a city-wide misdemeanor arrest program.
 
Betty is the Vice President of ALPFA Law, a program within the Boston Chapter of ALPFA that endeavors to provide Latino and other minority attorneys with professional development, networking, mentoring, and partnering opportunities. Betty also serves as a Board member of AbeKam, which provides management and consulting services to child-serving organizations. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Boston Bar Association's Public Policy Committee.

Betty obtained her JD and MBA from Northeastern University, and her BA in History from Bard College. She resides in Boston’s South End with her husband and two daughters.

 

 

Juan Lopera

Juan is a Director of Affordability Strategy in the Healthcare Services department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. In this role, Juan is responsible for the strategy and implementation of initiatives that enhance the quality and affordability of healthcare provided in Massachusetts. While at Blue Cross, Juan also worked as Director of Provider Contracting, designing, implementing and negotiating new payment models for hospitals and physician organizations.

Prior to Blue Cross, Juan was a manager at Deloitte Consulting and spent 8 years doing strategy and operations work in the healthcare space serving over 20 clients throughout the country. While at Deloitte, Juan was the founder of the Latino Business Resource Group.

Juan graduated from the Boston College School of Management with degrees in Finance and Information Systems. He is originally from Medellin Colombia.

 

Nadia Colon

Nadia Colon is currently the Senior Accountant for the Personal Market Reinsurance Department at Liberty Mutual Group. She is a graduate of Bentley University (former Bentley College) where she obtained both her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Accounting with concentrations in Information Technology. At her current role Nadia prepares and reviews complex standard and ad hoc reports (monthly, quarterly and annual book close; which includes account reconciliations, control checks, manual journal entries, preparation of financial statements) utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting principles. Nadia also presents findings/recommendations to Management and maintains accounting systems to ensure accurate and timely operation.

Prior to this position Nadia was an Assurance Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC where she serviced many clients within the Technology, Financial Services and Health care industries and the Non for Profit Sector. Prior to this she held various accounting positions at various small accounting firms and small businesses. She has been volunteering with ALPFA since 2003 while studying at Bentley College and throughout her professional career.

Nadia is a native of the Dominican Republic and is fluent in Spanish with knowledge of French. She currently resides in Boston, MA with her husband Duglan Tejeda and two children (Nathalia, 9 and Douglas, 2).

 

Perla Cardenas

Perla is pursuing a Master in Management at Harvard University with a concentration on Finance. She is currently doing an internship at Smith Barney, where she specializes in advising clients in financial planning, liability management, and legacy planning.

She holds a Graduate Diploma in Banking and Financial Services from Boston University. Also, she holds a bachelor degree in International business from ITESM, Mexico, where she participated in diverse exchange programs at the University of Alcalá in Spain, the University of Cincinnati, and the Seoul National University in South Korea.

At ITESM she was president of the International Student Association, where she organized academic, cultural, and sport events. In addition, she was a member of the university's soccer team for more than 2 years. She participated in community events, where she had the opportunity to enhance social and economical development, shaping and creating a better environment for the community. After graduating, she worked as a consultant in foreign commerce, enhancing international companies to do business in Mexico. Furthermore, she worked as an Executive VP in Grupo Humanna managing different consulting and business units.

Gerardo Diaz

Gerardo is currently a partner at Pangea Connect Inc., a video recorded interview platform to help companies make better and faster interview processes reducing costs and hiring more talent from a diverse pool of candidates.

Gerardo is also the founder and Director of GD Design, which provides consulting in web strategy. In addition Gerardo is starting a new venture as founder of Sport Motives LLC, a platform to help people stay motivated doing exercise.

He holds a Master in Management from Harvard University concentrating in Operations and Strategy.

Prior starting his studies at Harvard, Gerardo worked in Mexico at the City Hall of Queretaro as Department Manager where he led over 100 events beneficiating more than 16,000 people. Previously, he worked as Software Manager, improving customers’ satisfaction by 200% with a project capable of tracking requests and monitoring their execution.

As part of his studies in Mexico at Tec de Monterrey (ITESM), where he majored in IT Management, Gerardo participated in different international programs including one at Ècole de Commerce – Audiencia in Nantes, France concentrating in Marketing. In addition he was Vice President of the Student Organization in IT, and participated for 5 years in the Track & Field team being for two consecutive years the Regional Champion in Triple Jump discipline and 2nd place in National 4x400 Relays.

Lynette Correa, Founder/CEO of Career Coaching 4 Kidz (www.cc4kidz.com), is a Boston, MA native and has over 7 years professional experience in the youth & career development field working with high school students from the Boston Public School system as well as with college undergraduates. 
 
Lynette has her B.S. in Management, Specialization in H.R. Administration, and a Minor in Psychology from Lesley University. She is the first in her family to receive a high school diploma as well as a college degree.

Lynette has received various awards for her commitment and passion to working with youth and the community including a full scholarship recipient to the "Women, Power, Peace" Conference at the Omega Institute. She was 1/87 globally that received this prestigious award. She was also awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year 2008” from the National Society of Hispanic MBA’s, voted as “1/100 of the Most Influential People in the Hispanic Community in Mass. in the Powermeter 2008” by El Planeta Newspaper, and 1/70 nationally to participate in the Dartmouth College-Tuck School of Business MBA Diversity Conference 2008.

Romina Wilmot

As a Project Manager within the Marketing department at The TJX Companies, Inc. headquartered in Framingham, MA, she is responsible for executing national advertising campaigns in the areas of TV, Radio, Direct Mail, Print and Online for the Marshalls brand. She manages Hispanic marketing initiatives and projects for the US and Puerto Rico and serves as a liaison to the company's Hispanic advertising agency in Miami. Prior to joining TJX, Romina worked within the Advertising department of Staples Inc. where she managed national Business to Business marketing programs. Romina also worked at Arnold Worldwide supporting the Vonage advertising campaign. She also held an internship at Young & Rubicam's The Bravo Group in New York City.

Prior to making a career change to Marketing, Romina worked for 3 years for the U.S. Federal Government; First as a Human Resources Assistant for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and then as a Compliance Officer for the U.S. Department of Labor at the JFK building in Boston.

Romina holds a Masters in Communications Management from Simmons College and completed her undergraduate studies at Suffolk University where she attended both its Boston and Madrid campuses.

Romina serves as VP of Marketing/PR for ALPFA Boston. Romina is also the Fundraising Events Chair of the Greater Youth Resource Services in Randolph, MA. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Proyecto Hondureño, Inc. in Chelsea, MA. Romina will also lead the media efforts of the 2009 National ALPFA Convention in Boston.

 

Karen Wilmot

Christopher graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA in May of 1995 with a Business Degree with a concentration in accounting. He then started a business located in Medford Massachusetts. The business is still family owned today. In September of 2006 he entered the corporate world by taking a role at Mellon Bank. He has assumed several roles with Mellon’s accounting and Network Communications area. In addition, to his various management roles at Mellon, Chris founded Mellon first affinity group, called MORE (Multicultural Organization for Retention and Education). It was based out of their Everett, MA location but quickly become the second largest affinity group with all of Mellon. The group MORE received a ROSOFF award in March of 2007. Chris also conducted international training for seven resources in Pune, India for a period of three weeks and was responsible for performance management of 12 resources during his tenure at Mellon. He also served on Mellon’s Company Wide Diversity Council and served as a member of the Boston Urban Bankers Foundation prior to joining ALPFA.

Currently, Chris serves as the VP of Coaching and Mentoring for ALPFA Boston. He also manages ALPFA Boston relationships with FEI Boston (Financial Executives International) and Mass Mentoring. He is currently working on building relationships with organizations such as Big Brother Big Sisters, Hult International Business School, Dana Farber and the Nexus Alliance.

Elvia is a Info Services Specialist at Sun Life Financial in Wellesley, MA. She has assumed the infrastructure project manager role, being responsible for all aspects of implementation for IT vendor solutions. Director of Communications of HOLA, a diversity group to promote a culture of inclusion at Sun Life, empowering members, encouraging personal development, and facilitating recruitment and retention of Hispanic/Latino professionals.
She has held various management and engineering positions with companies including JP Morgan, ITAM and Sistemas Abiertos de Computo in Mexico.

She holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a Master in Computer Science from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). She also earned a Master of Science in Network and Information Systems for Enterprises from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) in Rennes, France. She is originally from Mexico City, Mexico.

Mark White is the Vice President of Community Relations for the ALPFA Boston Chapter. He is a partner in the law firm of Ceruolo, Hagstrom & White, P.C. which has office locations in Chelsea, Massachusetts and Melrose, Massachusetts. Mark focuses his legal career in the areas of real estate and immigration law.

Mark received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2004. Prior to that, he received his Bachelor’s degree in political science from Suffolk University in 2001. Mark has been with ALPFA since 2007, and previously served as Chair of the Community Relations Committee.

Accomplished Configuration Management/Release Engineer with extensive experience performing complex geographically distributed application migrations as well as providing third level technical support to offshore regional resources in Asia(8), Europe (3) as well as in India (18).

Viviana worked in the following Software Development companies: in the Financial Industry - State Street and Fidelity Investments; in the Telecommunications industry Sonus Networks; Software development – Spyglass; and in the Healthcare industry IDX Corp.  Viviana has a MS and BS in Computer Science, she also holds a BS degree in Technical Management.  Viviana joined ALPFA in 2004, during her time as Chair of Women of ALPFA she developed the statistical information for the Presidential Survey with El Mundo newspaper in 2008.  She also created another set of statistical information based on ALPFA’S Boston Chapter membership data in 2009 during her role as Vice President of this program.
