Message from the President

Paul Francisco

Hector Lopez-Camacho
ALPFA Boston President

Saludos ALPFA Boston Family,

On March 23, 2010, ALPFA Boston announced its leadership succession plan and my subsequent appointment as President. This is the first time that I address you in this capacity. I am thrilled to serve as your new President and to assist in reaching our collective goals. It is an honor and a privilege to lead ALPFA Boston to a new phase in its history and follow the steps of former Presidents: Juan Carlos Morales, Carol Sanchez, Fidel Vasquez, Eduardo Tobon, Rene Jarquin, Yvonne Garcia and Paul Francisco.

Over the past two years, ALPFA Boston has faced many opportunities and challenges. The key to our success has been to navigate them all with vision, passion and commitment. I take pride in the fact that despite unprecedented economic conditions, we have made strong progress: we hosted the largest National ALPFA Convention to date with over 2,200 attendees, secured the support of 45 corporate partners, launched a new highly successful program-ALPFA Career Connections (formerly know as Transition Support Group), started ALPFA Healthcare Series, continued to develop our ALPFA Law programming, organized several community outreach efforts through ALPFA Cares, re-launched a new and exciting ALPFA Boston website (www.alpfaboston.org), and the list goes on and on. Lastly, our membership numbers keep on growing, and we continue to be the largest ALPFA chapter in the nation with over 2,200
members, with a goal of reaching 3,000 by year end.

Thank you to our former President, Paul Francisco, for leading us through so many accomplishments. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank ALPFA Boston’s VPs and their committees: Viviana Arostegui-Ham, Carolina Avellaneda, Elvia Bautista, Perla Cardenas, Nadia Colón, Lynette Correa, Gerardo Díaz-Martinez, Juan Lopera, Chris Martins, Marcel Quiroga, Orlando Rodriguez and Mark White. None of this would be possible without your help
and support.

On a programmatic note, we have been busy preparing for the upcoming months. In addition to our regular monthly networking/professional development events, we are preparing to run the Boston Marathon through our Women Running For Good initiative, host our Fourth Annual Women of ALPFA Latina Business Summit on May 20th, as well as our late summer Annual Scholarship Fund Raiser Golf Tournament, and our best ever Executive Leadership Summit
celebrating our 10 year anniversary in November!

There remains much work to be done across all of the four constituencies that we serve — our members, our corporate partners, our volunteers and the community. But I believe that we have the right foundation from which to build, and more importantly, we have a foundation that is built on very solid ground. We have a strategic plan to guide us in our next phase of growth, a committed and talented leadership team, a membership focus that I believe is unrivalled, and a
significant base of passionate board members and volunteers that affords us tremendous scale and reach. My focus in the years ahead will be to build on these considerable assets.

In the coming months you will hear more about our strategic plan, and most importantly, how our membership will benefit from our strategy and expansion. I am committed to leading ALPFA Boston in the years to come and to ensuring that we fully realize our potential. I am convinced that our best years are ahead of us.
