ALPFA’s “WOMEN RUNNING FOR WOMEN”:

A CHANCE TO SHINE
By Marcel Quiroga, Vice-President Women of ALPFA

Women Running for Women” is an opportunity for driven women to meet an ambitious goal, for professionals from ALPFA to contribute and share in their success, for businesses to gain visibility in a socially responsible way, and for non-profits to highlight their work with, for, and by women.

As you know it is not just about running, but also a fund raising marathon. Please help other women by donating to this cause.

On December 15, 2009 ALPFA announced the official launch of the “Women Running for Women” program, a Boston initiative that seeks to demonstrate the chapter’s ability to work as a team, create synergies among all ALPFA members, motivate and empower women, and strengthen relationships between ALPFA and the larger community. Five women of ALPFA will train for and run the Boston Marathon as part of the “Women Running for Women” program. In their effort to meet this challenge, they will receive moral and fundraising support from the ALPFA Boston membership.

The experience is designed to bring to light the qualities needed for a thriving career. Much like these runners will need a strong network to cross the finish line on April 19, 2010, professionals need to establish and cultivate a network that will contribute to their success. Likewise, the discipline, dedication, consistency, and resilience that training for a marathon requires are traits that high-achieving professionals need to develop and maintain throughout their careers. The first step is to decide that success will be yours.

That is what Renee Fruzzetti, Yvonne Garcia, Cyndi Izzo, Marcel Quiroga, Nadia Colon, and Alejandra Taco have decided for. However, that is only the beginning. Their resolve will be tested throughout the next 16 weeks, during which they must train come rain, sleet or snow. ALPFA Boston’s unity and team spirit will also be put to the test, as these women will not be able to endure this effort on their own. As they concentrate on training with the encouragement of the ALPFA family, fundraising for the following charities will be in full gear by the chapter: Children’s Hospital of Boston, Bottom Line, and Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary.

The notable non-profits will benefit from the generous donations of businesses and individuals that want to support their mission, while recognizing the effort of the runners. Additionally, the charities will have an opportunity to highlight girls and women who benefit from the work they do, as well as women professionals that are key to their programs. “Women Running for Women” is an opportunity for driven women to meet an ambitious goal, for professionals from ALPFA to contribute and share in their success, for businesses to gain visibility in a socially responsible way, and for non-profits to highlight their work with, for, and by women. In the past, ALPFA Boston has demonstrated its capability of coming together to reach a common goal, like increasing membership to higher than imagined levels, making it the largest chapter in the country.

Once again, this group of professionals is building relationships, strengthening its members and reaching out to the community in a way that reflects the quality, skills and excellence of the organization and of all of its members.
